Replica Island

Even while GDC is going on I can still manage to download and try out new games. One that just got onto the market is called Replica Island by Team Replica which is an open source 2D scrolling shooter game. Sort of like older Mega Man games but with our beloved Android instead of a blue child looking robot.

The official description:

Professor Kabochanomizu needs your help! He has created you–a small green robot with rockets for feet–to locate a mysterious artifact on a bizarre island.  Fly, stomp, and roll your way through 40 challenging levels!

So far it runs smoothly on the G1 I’m currently using and is suppose to be able to run on all Android phones although some Droid users say it doesn’t properly work on the Droid. Once you get the hang of the controls it’s a pretty fun game so if you like 2D scrolling style games then this is definitely right up your alley and what’s best is we are our little Android friend we all love.

You can pick it up on the market for free. I did go to see if the source was available off the developers website but as of right now it isn’t and it’s now available via the link at the bottom of their website or by clicking here.

*Update March 20, 2010: It’s amazing to see how popular this game has gotten, even getting some news space on AndroidGuys! I still have this on my phone and love playing it. Definitely a great game to get.
