SPIL Games Goes Mobile – Supports Android

Recently we posted an article about major flash gaming sites and their support for the Android OS making their games available for everyone to play via their Android phone. Well another major casual gaming company just announced they are getting on board with mobile gaming and one of the platforms they will be support is…you guessed it, Android!

SPIL Games announced today that, through their support for HTML5, all their sites (all 41 of them) will be mobile friendly. All you have to do is browse to any one of their sites on your mobile phone and you’ll be automatically taken to a mobile version of their site done in HTML5. While this means that you’ll need a browser that supports HTML5 (found in Android 2.0 or higher), you’ll now have an ever bigger selection of games available for playing via your Android phone.

Even though iOS is also supported with this format, Android was also specifically noted multiple times within the press release regarding this announcement. It is good to see more of these sites taking into account that Android is a viable gaming platform to support. SPIL Games and their sites get over 130 million visitors a month already.

Central to SPIL GAMES’ endorsement of HTML5 is the launch of its new mobile sites, available today. For the first time, a user who owns a mobile device with a browser supporting HTML5 (iOS and Android devices from version 2.0) can go to any of SPIL GAMES’ 41 game websites (,, and be automatically rerouted to its dedicated mobile version.

SPIL Games are also holding a contest for developers who know HTML5 as well:

As part of its commitment to HTML5, SPIL GAMES is inviting game developers to bring HTML5-based games to market through a contest. The contest boasts a total prize pot of $50,000, and winning games will be featured on all SPIL GAMES’ mobile sites. The contest will run for six months, and each month SPIL GAMES will select new games to be awarded. Developers can submit their games and find all related information at

“Openness is at the core of everything we do, which is why HTML5 fits so well with our company mission to unite the world in play,” said Peter Driessen, CEO of SPIL GAMES. “We are aware that HTML5 is still at an early stage, but already developers can use it to make great games, and we are confident that the industry will quickly embrace it. Within three years, we expect HTML5 to be the standard in gaming devices.”

So why not head over and check out one of their sites and the games on them if you got a minute to kill and let us know what you think about them! If you are a developer let us know if you plan to enter the contest as well!
