Tablets we expect at CES

Tablets are apparently the next big thing and so far have demonstrated themselves to be fantastic mobile gaming platforms. Manufacturers are racing to compete with Apple’s iPad making use of Google’s mobile OS to bring dozens of quality products, and hundreds of not-so-great products to market. Here are just a few tablets we expect this week and next at CES.

Notion Ink Tablets – After it’s launch on the 18th in the form of online pre-orders it’s very likely we’ll be seeing the device this week. Notion has themselves stated that they’ll be showing off more of their gorgeous tablet at CES and we can’t wait. Eden, the original Android skin by Notion brings new tablet features to Android and an interesting UI, where we believe the Galaxy Tab fails.

Specifications (listed on site):

  • 10 inch LCD/PixelQi transflective display (optional)
  • 1 GB DDR2 RAM/8GB ROM microSD support
  • Tegra 250 dual-core processor
  • USB 2.0 Host 2x/mini USB/HDMI
  • 3.2 MP Auto Focus Swivel Camera

Motorola XOOM tablet – Motorola is definitely showing their tablet off at CES. NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 provides the processing power for Google’s first official Honeycomb tablet. We’re expecting a launch with Verizon 3G or 4G depending on release month, possibly with DROID branding. Honeycomb was demonstrated a few weeks back on stage by Google and seemed mostly done based on their demonstration.

Asus EP101 and EP 102 – Asus is jumping int o the Android Tablet game as well and are supposed to be showing off a couple of Android Tablets during CES. The EP101 and EP102. Both are supposed to be running Android Honeycomb and interestingly enough, both will have physical keyboards. The EP101 is apparently going to have a detachable keyboard while the EP102 will have a slider-style keyboard.

LG 8.9″ Tablet – LG is coming out strong this year with not only the dual-core Tegra 2 Android phone, but an 8.9″ Android tablet as well. This bad boy will also be sporting a dual-core Tegra 2 chip inside it and will also be coming with Android Honeycomb.

Toshiba Android Tablet – Toshiba is also set to jump into the Android tablet world with a 10.1″ device running Honeycomb which is supposed to be shown off at CES this year. Additionally, this will also be running a dual-core Tegra 2 chip and sports a 2MP front camera and a 5MP back camera. We also know that the expected price range will be between $500-$850 when it’s released.

Onkyo Slatepad Tablets – High-end home audio equipment company Onkyo is also set to show off 2 Android tablets. Both will be 10.1″ running 1024×600 resolution and will be running on NVIDIA’s 1GHz 2450 processor. Other specs include 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR wireless networking, microSD expansion slot, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, USB 2.0 Connectivity, and HDMI output. The two versions differ from each other only by memory that comes with it. One will sport 512 MB RAM and 8GB flash storage and other with 1GB of RAM and 16 GB flash storage.

Technicolor Tablet – Technicolor will more than likely be showing off their Android tablet as well at CES 2011. This will be more geared towards home entertainment usage and control but will also come with the majority of the features you would find on a standard Android tablet as well. This should be interesting to check out along with the Onkyo offerings.

While this certainly isn’t a complete list of all the Android tablets that will be shown off at CES 2011, these are some of the more interesting ones that will be there. Stay tuned for our coverage of CES 2011!
