Well the wait is over for that official Playstation application everyone reported on earlier in December 2010. It was just released a few moments ago today to all the fine folks over in Europe and so far it seems to be getting some decent rating. Our reviewer over there went ahead and nabbed a copy for us.
While version 1.0 is a bit bare bones, it will be updated with plenty more features in the near future. One feature that could easily be implemented is the ability to buy PS games for the upcoming, but still denied, Sony Playstation Android phone a.k.a the Xperia Play.
Version 1.0 features:
- Check out your PSN Trophies as well as keep up-to-date with your friend’s games and online status.
- Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your Playstation 3, PSP or Playstation 2.
- Read all the announcements on the European Playstation Blog
- Share your favorite news or products with friends via Facebook, Twitter or E-mail.
It is currently available for download for free of the Android Market for Android users in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands. Sony is saying they are already working on the next update for the app which should be rolling out fairly soon. Until we get this here in the US, check out the screenshots below from our European copy thanks to our reviewer in the UK, Chris Summerfield. The user interface looks pretty slick but you do need a PSN account, obviously, to check out Trophies and to see your friends online.
We also got a screenshot of Angry Birds on there, just cause.
Updated Jan. 11th, 8:57am: If you are in the US (or any other unsupported country) you can use this neat little app, called MarketAccess, to emulate the sim card of another carrier so you can download it.
