Android gamers are worth $1.90 says Mobclix. Doesn’t mean you’re a cheap date.

So from the wonderful world of analytics and statistics comes another gem of wisdom we can all sit and ponder for awhile. Mobclix just released some statistics regarding the worth of the individual Android user compared to that of the individual iPhone user. Apparently, us Android gamers are worth $1.90 compared to $4.00 on the iPhone.

There are a few reasons why this is as it is. One major reason is that up until recently, iOS has had a lot more monetisation options for developers to use. This, however, could be changing thanks to new improvements to the Android Market, mainly the inclusion of in-game purchases actually being supported in Android instead of having to use some pain in the ass workaround that only a few developers have done. Android also has a web-based storefront now, which should help things along in that category as well.

The research was done using 50 apps (yes, only 50) that had to have 500,000 downloads minimum or 75,000 active users. An active user is considered someone who uses the app/game at least three times a week.

Does this mean we are cheap or that developers won’t make the same amount of money as they would on the iPhone (not iOS, just iPhone)? No it doesn’t. As the Android user base increases like it has been and with further improvements to monetizing games, developers should be able to make just as much as they would on the iPhone.

As with all stats, take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully I can afford the salt.
