Settlers of Catan board game coming to Android. Basic and full expansion editions to choose from.

A popular board game going by the name of Settlers of Catan will be making the jump to mobile, specifically Android, in the very near future. The game itself is a mix of Settlers and Risk in terms of gameplay with the goal of being the dominant group on the island. It sounds like this game will be coming in two flavors.

Obviously the gameplay will differ from the actual board game but the idea is the same, be the dominant party by building settlements, roads, cities and more. It is a turn-based game where each turn you will gather resources and be able to expand you empire. Settlers of Catan also sounds like it will be coming in two flavors: Basic and one that includes the Seafarers expansion. Both versions of the game however will not come optimized for tablets right away. Should the game see success on Android and the tablet market continue to grow, which is will, then the developers will most likely update it with tablet support at that time.

The difference between this and the iOS version apparently will be new graphics but in terms of gameplay and updates, those will remain identical to the iOS version. Settlers of Catan will be released tentatively sometime in mid-June according to the developers. Pricing doesn’t seem to be set either as in-game purchases is being considered in some fashion but a number being thrown around right now is $5.77 (exchanged from the Euro price) for the basic. The fully expanded one with the Seafarers expansion will be priced higher. Both pricing is still not set and could come down should in-game purchases actually become a reality.

Side note: For those of you wondering, it looks like Settlers of Catan will come with a hot-seat multiplayer mode. Also the Seafarers expansion could very well be one of the things offered through in-game purchases instead of a second version. More information when we get it.
