This week in World of Midgard: 2nd close beta, exclusive pets, in-game currency and more!

It’s time for another edition of this week in World of Midgard MMORPG news. World of Midgard is a cross-platform MMORPG that will be available for Android and other platforms soon. Currently in closed beta, WoM is developing along nicely which you may know already if you’ve been following this series.

Well we skipped last week in order to build up the information for our next World of Midgard news post. We’ve been following the development of this MMORPG for awhile now and it has really come a long way already. Well skipping a week worked because we have a ton of stuff to tell you about so if you’re about to eat lunch, get comfortable and enjoy this installment of World of Midgard news.

To start this weeks edition off properly we are going to tell you about the new exclusive pets for beta testers and possibly those who didn’t get into the beta. If you read our last weekly post, you may remember that exclusive pets were brought up and being voted on. Well after all the votes were counted, the team of developers have selected two creatures that will be available for beta testers as exclusive pets. These pets will be roughly half the size of your character. The two pets selected are the Lava Golem and the Dichrous Naga and are available to all beta testers now and in the future for $7.99. There will only be 1000 of each pet sold so if you are planning on grabbing one we suggest not waiting. Both are pretty awesome and no, they are not combat pets.

Speaking of exclusive items, the development team for World of Midgard is offering up another exclusive item called the Dragon Mask. The Dragon Mask is just that, a mask for your character. However it looks pretty damn awesome to say the least. The Dragon Mask will also be on sale for beta testers (and possibly people who didn’t make it into the first round of closed beta) and will also be available in a limited quantity of 1000 like the pets are. The Dragon Mask is available for $7.99 as well.

While on the topic of closed beta, the second round of closed beta testing for World of Midgard will begin on or around Sept 2nd. If you’ve signed up for the closed beta already  but didn’t get selected for the first round you may end up getting into this next one. There were very few people selected for the first round since it was mostly a development preview more than anything. This second round will have many more features which possibly could include the actual user interface. If you want to sign up for the beta you can do so here.

The development team has also mentioned a few points about the direction the development is going regarding World of Midgard. They are asking for everyone’s feedback on it but the general low down on it all is that World of Midgard won’t be too casual and while there will be solo quests and all that good stuff, there will be plenty of social aspects in the game. All the best gear will be in dungeons as well and there won’t be any ‘welfare’ epic gear available. This means that you will have to run dungeons and play on a continual basis if you plan on grabbing the best gear.

Last but certainly not least are a few little points that came to light over the past two weeks. World of Midgard is a free-to-play game but as with any freemium game you have the option to buy in-game items to give you a boost or just novelty items using real money. The development team has announced the official name of the in-game currency that will be used in World of Midgard which is Amber. However, in a bit of a twist, you will be able to obtain Amber through daily quests and it will also have a possibility to drop off end dungeon bosses. If you want to use real money to purchase in-game items, you can do so by purchasing Mithril Coins which can also be used to buy items in-game via the cash shop.

As usual the development team has also released a plethora of preview videos over the past two weeks. You can check all of those out on their YouTube Channel. All of their videos are of new mobs and bosses as they stated last month that there would be no more dungeon walkthrough preview videos being released anymore. Unfortunately there hasn’t been anymore beta gameplay footage released by the developer or players since our last post except for this one fan-made trailer above.
