Sony Ericsson says more Triple-A titles on the way for the Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson says it has plan for the Xperia Play regarding future content, especially when it comes to Triple-A game titles. We saw the list of upcoming games for the Xperia Play when GamesCom 2011 started and most of those games were already out.

Dead Space by EA was released during GamesCom but only on their Flexion Store so far for Xperia Play owners leaving the rest of the Xperia Play owners who don’t have access to the Flexion store behind. Granted if you get the APK file for Dead Space you can run it on your Xperia Play or other Android device (although you’ll have to tweak it with Chainfire for it to work). Minecraft: Pocket Edition was also just released for the Xperia Play, thankfully on the Android Market.

However, Sony Ericsson says it has plans to expand their catalog of games, including Triple-A titles, in the near future. The problem is that one of the more anticipated titles for the Xperia Play and Android in general, this being Dead Space, isn’t every available to most players without some form of hacking it onto their device. Other EA titles including D.A.R.K are also only available in the same fashion.

“We’re still very much building the overall content story – we obviously released with a bunch of games and we’ve announced a great new catalogue of games here at Gamescom. We’ve got a really broad cross-section of content for it. That’s why we’re here at the show, to try and bring the story across that we’ve got AAA content coming through…

“We’ve got new PlayStation content coming through, more classics, but also we’re particularly focused on some of the new developer talent.” – Head of content marketing and strategy Tim Harrison

That’s great news for Xperia Play owners if they can actually access all of these Triple-A titles. With the Christmas season slowly coming up, it will be interesting to see if some companies such as EA will stop making their Triple-A titles only accessible to a limited audience or if they continue on with it. Triple-A titles are great but we have to be able to actually play all of them.
