G5 Entertainment gearing up to launch Virtual City Playground on Oct. 20th

G5 Entertainment announced today that on Thursday, October 20 their new game Virtual City Playground will hit the Android Market. Have you tried the first game in this series, Virtual City? Well this addresses something a lot of the players of the original game wanted.

Virtual City is a SIM type game. Your job is to build your city via quests or scenarios. It is a free game but to unlock the full game, it will run you about $5 USD. As you build your city, you need to take into account the environment, population, and of course funds.

Well G5 has come back and now has Virtual City Playground. Why is it called playground? One of the biggest components of the game is the sandbox mode, which means to can build whatever you like, no predefined missions needed and it is free. You still have to take into account your environment, population, happiness, energy, and cash, when building though.

The interface and game play is very similar to Virtual City. If you need help, there is a help menu and a tutorial to give you some step by step directions. There are still quests you can fulfill to help level up and earn money. Some of the key points to this new game:

  • Over 85 new optional quests
  • Over 90 new buildings, landmarks, and decorations, including Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Coliseum, Sydney Opera
  • 95 new achievements to earn
  • Regular updates are planned
  • Facebook integration
  • Minimized games continue to run, so you can be transporting goods and making you money, while you are away

This is a free game but you can purchase city credits or invest points to help speed up the process. G5 told us that “you don’t have to buy credits or energy or investment points – you can always check back in a few hours instead” so it sounds like if you are willing to be patient you might be able to truly play for free.

Another option now is the social aspect with Facebook. As you level up, you can post your game progress on Facebook, which will get you some invest points (only once per day).

So if you are a builder and want to be mayor of your own virtual city, hopefully without any strikes, sit ins, toxic environments, make sure you give Virtual City Playground a shot this Thursday. You can check out the preview trailer above.
