Well here is a bit of a chance of pace when talking about the Xperia Play and games for Android. Sega has confirmed that, while the Sonic CD game is supposed to support game controlled, it will not be optimized for the Xperia Play, at least not right now.
Generally when we read the words “Xperia Play” and a game title it is generally followed by the words “temporary exclusive”. In this case however it is the exact opposite. Sega has said that they will not be making an Xperia Play optimized version of the upcoming Sonic CD game, due out this December. As to why they won’t be supporting it is anyone’s guess although we could really dig deep into it and pull out some conspiracy theories.
“SEGA is always interested in supporting all mobile platforms, and we agree, Xperia Play offers some pretty unique opportunities for us as publishers… you never know when we’ll announce something new.” – Ken Balough, brand manager for Sonic CD.
So while there are no immediate plans for Sonic CD to arrive in an Xperia Play optimized form of any kind, Sega isn’t ruling that out either as a possible future update. However, if you own an Xperia Play and were looking forward to playing this game when it lands on Android in December, you may be waiting awhile.
