Monday Afternoon Humor: PETA goes after Mario, says he encourages the wearing of fur

I’ll be honest here, anything related to PETA gives me a good chuckle regardless if their means of getting their message across can sometimes border on the illegal like the recent issue with that Dogfighting game on Android getting a trojan put in it by a PETA supported.

We try to keep our “Humor” series of posts somewhat related to Android but generally we make exceptions to that rule, and this would be one of those times. In a new campaign regarding fur wearing, PETA has decided to target Mr. Mario himself, saying his ability to wear a Tanooki suit is basically telling people who play the Mario games that it’s alright to wear fur.

When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy – even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers. Tanooki may be just a “suit” in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur.” – The official Mario Kills Tanooki site.

While not just being fine with speaking out about Mario’s apparent lust for wearing animals to save the Princess, they have even created a Flash game in the style of the earlier Mario games where you play as a skinned Tanooki chasing down Mario who happens to be wearing your bloody pelt. It’s actually pretty twisted and poorly made. Basically the Tanooki is the raccoon outfit you get in Mario games when you collect a leaf power-up. Apparently this all means that Mario condones the wearing of fur.

I hate to see what PETA thought of all the Halloween costumes of animals kids were wearing this year. So what game would be next on their list? Angry Birds? Feel free to check out the official Mario Kills Tanooki site.
