Sega changes their minds again, releases Sonic CD onto Android instead of delaying it

Well here is something interesting as apparently Sega can’t make up their mind as to when they want to release Sonic CD apparently. First is was originally slated for December (this month) but then the other day they announced it would be delayed until early 2012. Well late last night they decided to release it onto the Android Market.

We guess that Sega said screw it and decided to release it today instead of in the new year like they had announced. Perhaps they decided to just release it and bring Xperia Play support in a future update like we had suggested they do since delaying a game release for everyone just to bring Xperia Play support to the game doesn’t make sense. Either way we are happy our little hedgehog friend is now available to download.

This is the port of the Master CD version of Sonic CD. It comes with all the levels the original did plus you will be able to play the game through as Tails once you finish the game as Sonic. There are other features included in Sonic CD that was never in the original like achievements and leaderboards and a 16:9 widescreen ratio. It also comes with both the North American and the Japanese original soundtracks (go for the Japanese one, it’s better).

You can use the touch screen controls on it or you can hook up a controller and play this classic game that way instead. For fans on Sonic titles, this is pretty much a must-buy and Sega seems to have done a good job with porting it over. You can download Sonic CD off the Android Market for $1.99. You can check the game out in action in the trailer below.

On a side note: If you have problems downloading the extra data you can grab it here and install in manually but simply extracting it to the SD/android/data folder on your SD card.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in, there was a lot of you!
