Rockstar sheds light on Grand Theft Auto 3 now that the mobile version is out

To commemorate a decade since its first release and recent port to mobile devices, Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition, Rockstar Games took the stage to answer some of gamers most burning questions.

In a two part session Rockstar Games reveals a number of tidbits on their website including early inceptions of Claude before his final design. Claude’s concept art varied from styling a short buzz cut haircut, donning a turtle neck (amusingly), and to the iconic cargo pants and bomber jacket we know all know today.

Rockstar also gives us a number of insights ranging from the reasons why Claude (main protagonist) is a mute to the hidden multiplayer menu found in the PC version. You might be surprised at the reasoning behind Clause being mute. The questionnaire also debunks many popular rumors such as the removal of a Twin Tower inspired skyscrapers and of the removal of school buses and children in light of the September 11 attacks.

Only 41 days after the attack the terrorist attacks, many media properties such as movies, games and music went back to the drawing board to remove sensitive materials that may offend those affected by the events. Rockstar Games revealed that only minor revisions were added to the game:

About 1% different. We removed only one mission that referenced terrorists and changed a few other cosmetic details – car details, a couple of ped comments, lines of radio dialogue etc.

The box art was also edited for the North American release. The comic book panel style instantly became popular and continued to be a staple today. If you breathe and play Grand Theft Auto click the link below to see the full Q&A, and if you missed out on our in-depth review you can read it here.
