Minecraft: Pocket Edition hits 700,000 downloads in two months

Seems like Minecraft addicts also like crafting on the go. Mojang’s Minecraft: Pocket Edition reached a whopping 700,000 downloads in a span of two months. Developer Daniel Kaplan revealed in a tweet the astounding number of the combined download for both iOS and Android.

Despite the lack of features from its larger PC brethren, Minecraft: Pocket Edition numbers continue to grow, and a quick check on the Android Market places it squarely in the top 10 Top Paid Games. While on that other App Store Mojang’s greatest sits firmly on the top 50.

With 5,000 plus download daily it comes to no surprise that the quirky and blocky (yet charming) graphics has become a hit. Minecraft for the PC has become a cult classic allowing players to create virtually anything that comes to mind. While Minecraft: Pocket Edition misses important features such as the ever popular survival mode, Mojang hopes to remedy this with an update slated for a February release. Currently, Minecraft: Pocket Edition drops you in an open world with less crafting and more mining. While this surely turned off the Minecraft faithful, it still allowed gamers to build numerous creative structures.

For those that missed Android’s 10 cents sale this past December, Minecraft: Pocket Edition is still available on the Market along with a free demo. With the impending feature filled February update I suggest you familiarize yourself with the title that has everyone talking about.
