Google Play to introduce cross-platform gaming soon?

While I’m not personally eager to start addressing the former Google storefront as Google Play, I can definitely appreciate the search giants vision in unify Google+, Android Market and Chrome Web Store in one easy to browse shopping experience.

No matter the resistance, Google has slyly re branded the Android Market, along with its web version into Google Play under our noses. Google Play looks to be the one stop center for books, movies, apps and of course games. The change may seem minor to some, as the service will continue to operate the same way you’ve grown to to know and love, but how the unification of the three different service will do to gaming is quite interesting.

According to VentureBeat, Punit Soni, group product manager for Google+, the company hopes to create a a social and mobile gaming platform by as early as next year. While I’m willing to bet you won’t find yourself fragging and shooting in the next N.O.V.A. installment against PC users from your Android device anytime soon, this change will benefit Zynga like social games that many have already logged on to on Google+ and the Chrome Web Store.

It may be a glimmer of a start, but as technology progresses, don’t be surprised to find yourself playing againt PC users from your tablet or phone or even Google powered TV in the coming years.
