Droidgamers: Android Games We’re Playing This Week 4/8 – 4/14

Like a middle child, mobile games are constantly vying for our attention. Every week there is a new shipment of mobile games propping themselves on our desks and demands to be played. While we do have dedicated reviewers, sometimes the games can be just as engaging as reviewing your W-2 forms.

So we present “Game’s We’re Playing This Week”, outstanding games that deserves longer than your average bathroom romp. Every week members of our staff will sift through the best Android games, new or old, on their devices that they are playing relentlessly, pick a couple of them, and share them with you. As always we’re on constant lookout for hidden gems, so if you have a great game to share, please feel free to comment below.

In truth, for weeks I’ve been playing with the national phenomenon that’s sweeping across America — Draw Something. While I was initially unimpressed with the lack of features (messaging, colors, brushes) the push for paying for additional paint was a major turn off. Sure you can earn them for free, but the painstaking amount of games needed to unlock them is a bit much. There’s no way you can draw out a rainbow with three missing color. However, like most social networking sites, after repeated insistence from friends I caved in. I stopped being cheap enough to and plunk down $0.99, grew a beard and do my best Bob Ross impression.

Shogun: Bullet Hell Shooter

As a boy growing up in the 90’s, arcade cabinets carried top of the line games that made most console games pale in comparison. As the Street Fighter booth were always hoarded with olderand meaner six graders, I’ve always turned to another favorite: Shoot’ em ups. Games like the Metal Slug series and WWII vertical plane shooters showered every single inch of the screen.Just trying to keep up was enough to cause a minor epileptic attack.

Like Tower Defense and RPG, mobile games have given shoot’ em ups a breath of new life. In searching through the best shooters I’ve found Shogun: Bullet Hill Shooter to be the closest to the Japanese arcade games. You’ll shed tears as you try keep your eye open to track you aircraft in a midst a hail of lasers, missiles and loads of bullets. Not even the Kardashians clothing is as tight and cramped as this game.
