If you’ve ever wondered where the flood of video game Kickstarter campaigns began, it would be a good idea to start with Double Fine Adventure. Even though Double Fine Adventure was not the first video game to seek funding through Kickstarter, it was the first game that showed it is possible to raise over $3 million by appealing directly to fans. The Kickstarter campaign is long over, but there’s still an opportunity to make a donation and get the game for Android.
Double Fine set up a PayPal account that picks up where Kickstarter left off. For $15, Double Fine will provide you a copy of Double Fine Adventure on PC, Mac, Linux or Android when it’s completed. You’ll also get access to the PC and Mac beta, private forums and the HD documentary Double Fine promised to have made throughout Double Fine Adventure’s production. The first episode of that documentary entitled “A Perfect Storm for Adventure” is up on YouTube right now.
There’s no word on when the beta will be released, or when we’ll even find out what Double Fine Adventure is all about. You can be sure there will be frequent updates about the game’s production though.
