nVidia announces the GeForce Grid cloud gaming platform

Yesterday during the GTC conference nVidia revealed their newest project which takes aim at cloud gaming. This service, called the GeForce Grid, will provide a gaming-on-demand service to any device by streaming it from the cloud to your specific devices.

This service will allow companies to stream advanced visuals to TVs, PCs, tablets, and smartphones running Android and iOS devices at a low latency. This means companies will be streaming triple-A high-end game through the Geforce Grid right onto your Android phone or tablet. Think of it as OnLive but possible better due to the technology nVidia will be using to push the content to your phone.

It looks like cloud gaming could be seeing a big push soon in regards to mobile devices. There are already other companies getting into the mobile gaming scene with their gaming-as-a-service such as Gaikai’s newest deal to be integrated right into the upcoming WikiPad. OnLive is already here for Android and now we have the GeForce Grid to look forward to. In fact it looks like Gaikai will be one of the first provides of Triple-A titles to use GeForce Grid.
