OnLive gearing up to release a new OnLive app for Google TV owners

The OnLive game streaming service is already available for Android devices thanks to their application on Google Play. It is also starting to become available pre-installed on some Google TVs as well such as the LG Smart TV (G2 series) via a future software update and the VISO Co-Star. However, that leaves other Google TV owners without OnLive but that will soon be changing.

In a post over on the Google TV blog, Steve Perlman, Founder & CEO of OnLive let out that an official application would be heading to Google Play soon for those people who already own a Google TV but happen to own a model that won’t be getting the OnLive service in a future update or out-of-the-box when buying a new one.

The application, when it is released, will be the same full featured app found already on the Google Play store for Android devices but optimized for Google TV devices instead. So if you don’t own an OnLive box, you will soon be able to play console quality games streamed right to your Google TV without having to purchase one. You will also be able to play any of the games on Onlive on your Google TV using any compatible controller or the OnLive Universal remote.

As of right now there is no official date for the release of the Google TV optimized OnLive app but it sounds like it should be too much of a wait.
