Zynga to eventually bring real money gambling to some of their games

During the investor call yesterday Zynga announced that they will eventually be bringing real money gambling to some of their games in the near future. As of right now the target time frame is the first half of 2013 but that is all dependent on getting through the various online gambling reviews first so they are legally allowed to do this.

One thing is for sure about all of this, US Residents will probably not see this new service available to them considering that gambling is legal in only a few states and online gambling really isn’t legal at all. The online part is changing though after Las Vegas recently approved two companies to license out online gambling software to companies but to legally gamble online still has quite the journey to make in the United States.

However it is a bit easier regarding online gambling with the rest of the world. While Zynga hasn’t totally confirmed what games will end up getting the real money gambling options, it is a safe bet that some of their casino themed games like Zynga Poker will certainly get it. Platforms haven’t been confirmed either but as Zynga CEO Mark Pincus says, mobile games are “a big opportunity” so don’t be surprised if real money gambling shows up on them first.

So what do you think about this move into real money gambling by Zynga? Let us know in the comments below. On a side note, although relevant, Zygna’s stock dropped around 40% after their investor call yesterday which could be a big part of why they want to go this route.
