About two weeks ago we talked about Marvel who had begun teasing an Avengers game that would be heading to iOS and Android soon. Well an announcement today has given us the official name of the game, a release date and more details about the game including a new trailer. Are you ready for The Avengers Initiative?
Yes, that will be the full name of the game, which was developed by Disney’s Wideload Games in conjunction with Marvel, and it is slated for release tomorrow, Sept. 6th, 2012. A few review copies have been sent out to a small selection of sites it seems and initial hands-on reports indicate that Avengers Initiative is essentially Infinity Blade 2 but with superheroes. There is definitely nothing wrong with that. This will be an episodic series with tomorrow’s release being the first installment into the series.
It looks like each episode will focus on one of the Avengers doing what they do best, tracking down the bad guys and putting them behind bars. As the story goes, something has happened at a jail where a lot of supervillains were being kept, allowing them to escape from the jail and return to their regular scheduled mayhem. The first installment in the series features the big green menace, The Hulk. You will be traveling between per-determined locations to battle it out with your enemies although there are a few different paths you can take.
For those of you interested in reading through a hands-on preview for the Avengers Initiative, Slide-to-Play seems to have a great one now available for viewing. If you don’t want to have the game spoiled by reading fairly in-depth details about it before it is launched, all you have to do is wait till tomorrow and grab the game yourself. Until then, we can just enjoy the official launch trailer above. When this game gets released, it will be available for ‘select android devices’.
