The upcoming Archos GamePad appears in a hands-on demo

Archos announced back near the end of August that they had been developing a gaming centric Android tablet which would inadvertently be in direct competition with Wikipad’s upcoming gaming tablet offering. The Archos GamePad has now gotten a hands-on fondling by the folks at ARMdevices.net, giving us a pretty good view of the upcoming 7″ gaming themed tablet.

Along with the hands-on video, which you can watch below, some hardware specs have also been confirmed for this 7″ gaming tablet. The GamePad will run at 1024×600 resolution, powered by a Rockchip RK3066 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 teamed up with a quad-core Mali-400MP4 GPU. Obviously is features a set of gaming controls attached to the side of the tablet, not unlike the Wikipad, although these ones are not detachable while the Wikipad’s are.

While the Archos GamePad and the Wikipad are in direct fire of each other, the WikiPad is a 10″ gaming tablet with some beefy hardware. The choice for the consumer will come down to price and size preference and the 7″ GamePad is looking to be retailed at $149 which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Wikipad which will be $499 at GameStop when it arrives this month.
