Critically-acclaimed shmup Ikaruga makes its way to Android, Japan-only for now

Ikaruga is widely recognized to be one of the best shoot ‘em ups ever, and has garnered high praise from both reviewers and hardcore gamers in the past. It is a challenging and fast-paced game that utilizes the color polarity mechanic – your ship has to be of the same color as the incoming bullets or else you die.

Now, it has arrived on Android. But hold on just a second – it is only available to folks living in Japan. Actually, I’m able to buy the game in Malaysia (and some others are reporting they can too in other countries), but you best stay away for the time being, because after downloading the data, the same error kept on cropping up for me. You also have to sign up for a Japanese social gaming network, and everything is in Japanese so you won’t get far anyway.

The screenshots attached on the Google Play page look great, and there’s every indication that this will be the same content wise to the original Ikaruga. At the moment, it costs roughly $10, on par with the Xbox 360 version of the game. I’m sure many of us will be anxiously waiting for this game to get a global release, and when that happens, we’ll bring the good news to you right here.
