nVidia’s Tegra 4 “Wayne” chipset stats leaked, comes with five Cortex A-15 cores

Usually around this time we’ve already started hearing about the next version of the Tegra series of chipsets slated to arrive from nVidia. While the roadmap was leaked some time ago with Tegra 4, codenamed Wayne, arriving by the end of this year. Considering that there must have been a delay in the plans, we are just now getting information about Tegra 4 which means we could very well likely see it announced at CES 2013.

This makes sense since nVidia generally likes to announce things at CES whether it be a new top-of-the-line tablet featuring their Tegra 3 chip or just a whole new chip itself. However, we get to see the stats ahead of time for this Tegra 4 chip and they are looking mighty nice.

As you can see in the image above, the Tegra 4 chip will come with their 4-plus-1 structure that the Tegra 3 came in but with Cortex-A15 CPU cores powering it this time, along with a fifth Cortex-A15 core for battery saving related functions. The GPU will be an improved 72-core set up which nVidia is labeling as 20x faster than Tegra 2 and 6x faster than Tegra 3.

Rounding off the stats is the fact that the chip will use a 28nm HPL process, have dual channel memory, full 1440p video encode/decode, support for 2560×1600 (24b) displays, advanced hardware accelerated security, and super speed imaging.

Since Wayne is arriving a bit late, this could mean both that Wayne and Grey (their other chipset with the built-in Icera modem) could be announced at the same time or pretty close to it. So with the specs of the upcoming Tegra 4 chip, what does everything think about it? Will this one be a winner?
