Spiritual successor to Commander Keen series called Worlds of Wander hits Kickstarter for funding

There were plenty of good platformer coming out back in the 1990s and it is always good to see new life being breathed into some of these classics so we can once again enjoy them. Right now a game called Worlds of Wander has begun looking for funding on Kickstarter and this particular game is a spiritual successor to the Commander Keen series from back in the 1990s.

While it is being called a spiritual successor by the developer iD Software co-founder, Tom Hall, many would say this is a direct sequel to the series instead. Regardless of how you want to look at it, getting another good platformer brought back from the past and massaged with new life as a new title is always a good thing. However, there is a lot more than meets the eye with this Kickstarter campaign.

Worlds of Wander will come with all its level data open, freely available for players to use in order to create their own levels for the game. Players are also encouraged to share these newly created levels with other players in the community. The community will have a rating system to the best levels will be at the top while poorly designed ones will end up sinking to the bottom of the list. Voting is done by everyone in the community.

Not only will you get Worlds of Wander, as well as the ability to create all the content you want for the game, everyone will also get another complete game called Secret Spaceship Club which is also part of the Commander Keen franchise.

So to recap, if this gets funded what will become available when it launches is Worlds of Wander which is a game but also a set of tools to create more game content. For those of you not interested in that, you’ll be able to play that game as-is as well as Secret Spaceship Club. As of right now their campaign is sitting at just over $33K with a goal of $400K to be reached in the remaining 24 days.

On a side note: This will be released, if funding is successful, on Android tablets only. At least for right now. Also, to really understand what all of this is, definitely watch the pitch video above.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
