Microsoft clarifies a few things, only Age of Empires is coming to Android

The other day news came out that Microsoft was gearing up to release some of their more classic games onto Android with the first game slated for release being the original Age of Empires. There was also speculation that other titles would soon be following as well. Today Head of Microsoft Studio Phil Spencer came out to clarify a few things regarding the news from a few days ago.

While Age of Empires is indeed coming to Android, this will be the only game that Microsoft will be porting over to our lovely green OS. As for any other classic Microsoft games, there are no plans to bring any of those over to Android, at least not at this moment in time. Mr. Spencer took to Twitter to clarify all of this, labeling this as a “translation error” in the news that came out.

We only speculated that this could be a possibility from what we read elsewhere but since we also know how Microsoft functions most of the time, we didn’t expect to see Xbox games arriving onto Android. Second-screen experiences are a whole different matter though with the upcoming Xbox One as we’ve already begun reporting on games (like Dead Rising 3) coming with integration with Microsoft’s SmartGlass application.

Of course Mr. Spencer was specific enough to say Xbox games aren’t coming to Android, nothing about Microsoft PC games though so there is always a possibility of that happening. For now though, Age of Empires is plenty good enough for us.
