Games Workshops’ next title will be the classic board game Chainsaw Warrior

Games Workshop is a company known for a few big franchises that have been around for awhile and have graced a variety of platforms including physical games. We now have some of their games making the journey to mobile as well with one of the most recent titles to come from the Games Workshop catalog being Talisman Prologue. Well you can look forward to another board game coming your way soon called Chainsaw Warrior.

Unlike board games in general where multiple people play against each other in one way or another, Chainsaw Warrior is a single-player board game which is something of a rarity even to this day. Originally this game was released back in the 1980s (1987 to be exact) and now it will be coming to both PC and mobile devices, both iOS and Android. So if you are not playing against other people, what the hell are you doing with this game?

Well if you’ve played it before then you already know the answer but for those of you who haven’t tried Chainsaw Warrior before, this board game is all about you racing against the clock. This game actually plays out like an RPG title in some ways. You are a military cyborg charged with trying to stop a rift that has opened up and allowed all kinds of wonderful and murderous creatures to flood the city you’re in.

If you’ve played tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons then some of the elements in Chainsaw Warrior will be pretty familiar. You will have character stats, weapons, armor and items that you either start off with or collect along the way. There is also a simulated timer that is ticking down and you have a total of 60 minutes to get the job you’ve been tasked to do completed.

The original Chainsaw Warrior board game

Auroch Digital is the studio in charge of bringing Chainsaw Warrior over to PC and mobile devices. Half the reason the company wanted to bring this game back to life is because it goes against the grain of everything that is happening now with games. A lot of titles are social in one way or another whether its just social sharing features and leaderboard to full on multiplayer or MMO games. Chainsaw Warrior is nothing but a single player game. It’s also a game that changes each time you play it which isn’t too different from Talisman Prologue. It also helps that its fun and challenging too.

I loved the 80s style of the game and we’ve kept much of that in our design as well as faithfully translating the gameplay. Don’t expect to win the game easily. This was the Dark Souls or Super Meat Boy of its day. Players didn’t want to buy the game and run out of challenge at first play. The game has many ways to kill you and is unafraid to use them – which makes it all the sweeter when you finally win. – Auroch design & production director Tomas Rawlings

How the game will actually appear on mobile devices remains to be seen. It could stay true to the pure board game style of playing field or it could ends up as something else. No price has been announced yet but there is a release time frame of Chainsaw Warrior arriving onto Android by the end of this Summer.
