It appears that Dragon Quest VIII is the first title to head onto Android this month

It appears that Square Enix is looking to possibly capitalize on the holiday season and the popularity of their recently announced second franchise that will be coming to mobile called Dragon Quest. If you missed out on our previous posts, basically Square Enix has said that the Final Fantasy franchise won’t be continuing after the release of Final Fantasy VII for mobile devices in the immediate future.

Instead the company will be moving onto another one of their franchises for awhile called Dragon Quest, most likely while they figure out a way to get Final Fantasy VII and newer titles in the series available onto mobile in an efficient way. Square Enix announced that the entire Dragon Quest series would be making its way to Android eventually and according to one of our readers living in Japan, it appears that Dragon Quest VIII could be the first release from the franchise.

What’s even more interesting is that in the update in the Dragon Quest portal app available to folks in Japan where our reader originally saw this, it states that Dragon Quest VIII would be arriving onto Android on December 12th, 2013 and will cost around 2800¥ which is basically somewhere in the neighborhood of $26-$28. This is further confirmed by checking out the Japanese Dragon Quest micro-site where the initial announcement of the franchise coming to mobile was revealed.

Of course this is completely subject to change and it could also mean that it could be released in Japan on that date and not worldwide. Either way, December 12th is not that far off so we will have to keep an eye out for any additional information to come out between then and now. You can also check out a quick hands-on video of Dragon Quest VIII from back in October that showed a glimpse of the game on mobile.

Thanks to Beasleydawg for the heads up over on our forums.
