[CES 2014] Nvidia teaming up with companies to develop GameStream certified PCs and Wi-Fi routers

Nvidia has announced that they have partnered up with multiple companies in order to developer PCs and Wi-Fi routers optimized for their GameStream technology. These will be official GameStream certified PCs and routers made for use with Nvidia’s game streaming service which is slated to officially roll-out in full force soon.

Nvidia’s GameStream technology, for those of you who don’t know about it, basically allows you to stream PC games to the Nvidia Shield. Eventually this could come to other Tegra-based mobile devices but as of right now the Shield is the only one. This isn’t including Android-powered game consoles like Mad Catz MOJO which will also be getting GameStream. Streaming can be done via your own PC that has a newer GeForce GTX card installed or through Nvidia’s cloud game streaming service called GRID.

Consumers will have two options for GameStream certified geared, either through customer built PCs or through certified routers. The current custom PC builders on-board right now include CyberPowerPC, Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, IBuyPower, MainGear and Origin PCV3 Gaming. These companies will build PCs with new GeForce GTX cards in them that will also be GameStream certified.

Router manufacturers who are on-board include Asus, Buffalo, D-Link and NetGear.

There are currently 12 routers already available that are optimized for both local PC game streaming and Nvidia Grid cloud game streaming:

– Asus RT-AC66U
– Asus RT-AC68U
– Asus RT-N56U
– Asus RT-N66U
– Buffalo AirStation Extreme AC 1750
– Buffalo AirStation Extreme AC 1200
– D-Link DIR-860L AC1200
– D-Link DGL-5500 AC1300
– Netgear Nighthawk R700
– Netgear R6300
– Netgear R6250
– Netgear WNDR4500

Right now there are over 50 PC games officially supported by Nvidia’s GameStream technology with more on the way. Nvidia’s cloud game streaming service GRID is slated to roll-out in full soon but as of right now there is no official date.
