Back in September of last year we reported on a new turn-based strategy war game called Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders which had just arrived onto Google Play. The developers of this game have been working hard to bring it to PC and now it is available on Steam through there Early Access program. So why are we reporting on it? Because Kerberos Productions has announced that cross-platform gameplay with Android users, among other features, is on the way.
Kerberos Productions plans to continue working on and expanding Ground Pounders throughout all of 2014. While the immediate focus is on gathering feedback from PC gamers now that the Early Access on Steam version is available, the majority of the rest of 2014 is going to be expanding the game as well as bringing cross-platform gameplay between PC and Android users into reality.
For those of you not familiar with this game and missed our previous article, Ground Pounders takes place on a hex-based layout and is set in the Sword of the Stars science fiction universe. Players will have various military units at their command, ranging from soldiers to tanks and aircraft, from one of the three available factions. Even though the game plays out as a turn-based strategy game, combat is done in real-time.
Over the course of 2014, Kerberos Productions will be expanding Ground Pounders with new factions, new units, and new battles / campaigns. Cross-platform gameplay is slated to arrive later this year although no solid release date has been announced. Players who grab a copy of Ground Pounders through Steam while it is apart of the Early Access program will also eventually get development tools that they can use to create additional battles, campaigns and other content that can be shared and played by everyone.
Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders is already available on Google Play for free while the Steam Early Access version for PC is now available for $9.99.
