[Updated] Ubisoft’s upcoming Watch Dogs game is getting an interactive companion app

Watch Dogs is getting a companion App that will allow players to interact with the upcoming title. This news keeps up with the current trend where a lot of major game releases that are coming up for other platforms are getting companion apps that players can use and interact with while playing the matching game.

Update: May 29th, 2014 8:17am PST: Now that the game is available, so is the official companion app. We’ve added the appropriate link below.

The app works with the game’s multiplayer components. App users are able to hack the streets of Chicago in order to affect player’s reputation. One example of this is when a player is driving around the city, a person using the mobile app, can hinder their progress. The mobile player must first find a hacker in the city, using the map shown in the app and then go about damaging their reputation. Causing major car accidents to get in the way by messing with the traffic lights is one way to do this. This is only one way we know of the app being used, but it is definitely not the only one.

Watch Dogs comes to PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on May 27th, 2014, with a Wii U version coming later this year. This app looks like an interesting way to include use of mobile devices in a more meaningful way than previous efforts. Instead of just unlocking items in the app, people get to actually be a part of the game.
