Nvidia’s Shield Hub update now available with Material Design, Improved GameStream and more

Nvidia has pushed out a major update for their Shield Hub which will also require you to update your GeForce Experience software on your PC as well. This update brings a range of improvement for the UI of the Hub itself, improved GameStream in console mode, improved connectivity to Nvidia’s GRID and more.

The biggest change is the layout of the Hub itself with the introduction of Google’s Material Design standards which brings subtle animations, layers, and updated iconography. Your games are more upfront to minimize scrolling. The My PC Games and GRID tabs now shows more games with vertical scrolling for better navigation.

In regards to GameStream, Nvidia explains it best:

The new SHIELD Hub features an improved GameStream experience in console mode. With a fast enough Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to output 1080p at 60 frames per second. To enable this feature, go to My PC Games -> Streaming Settings (top right) -> Show Advanced Options -> Quality. Set Max Resolution to 1080p and Frame Rate to 60 FPS. A 5GHz Wi-Fi network (802.11n/ac) is required to stream at 1080p.

Nvidia’s cloud-based gaming-on-demand service GRID will now also have improved connectivity as well although Nvidia doesn’t dive too deep into this update feature. If you use GameStream you will need to update your GeFroce Experience software for your PC as well since the two are intertwined. Both the Hub and PC updates are now available.
