Online Petition started for a remastered version of Sonic 3 to be released

A few weeks ago we posted an article about the fall of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega in general. Needless to say there is still a decent amount of discussion going on over in the comments section for that article and we haven’t even posted part 2 yet. So when we were tipped off about a petition for a remastered version of Sonic 3 to be released onto Android, it was something we obviously had to check out.

Sure enough an online petition has been started with the hopes of bringing Sonic 3 to Android (and iOS) in a new remastered version. Two developers (Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley) have already made a remastered prototype of Sonic 3 so the petition is actually a plea to Sega to release it. This isn’t the first time Whitehead and Thomley have remastered a Sonic game either. The duo have been responsible for a trio of remastered Sonic games in the past – Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Essentially this would complete the remastered series for the duo. There is even an official website for the remastered version of Sonic 3 already live. This remastered version of Sonic 3 will come with new HD visuals and new content added to it as well as new game modes to play through such as Boss Attack, Time Attack and online competition.

Other Sonic 3 remastered features include:

● Widescreen display
● Enhanced graphics and animations
● New levels
● New story cut-scenes
● New bonus modes

Hopefully the recent issues Sega has been facing including the releasing of 300 employees could make this a big of a harder sell to Sega. However, if Sega knew what was a good idea for them to do, releasing a remastered Sonic 3 onto Android would be one of those good ideas.

As of right now the petition has 2000 signatures. The more signatures the petition gets, the better chance Whitehead and Thomley have of getting Sega to pick up their remastered Sonic 3 game and releasing it onto Android (and iOS). You can actually see the remastered game in action in the video above. The screenshots don’t do the remastered version any justice as you can see in the video, the actual game looks quite good, even for a prototype.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
