[GDC 2015] The Roblox Android app will be getting an overhauled version released shortly

We had a chance to talk with the folks over at Roblox during GDC 2015 about their Android app and if you use Roblox on your Android device then there is some good news for you. The entire application will be getting overhauled in terms of functionality and especially with regards to the user interface for the app.

One of the problems with the app on Android, aside from the occasional crash and menu scaling issues, is that the user interface and overall functionality of the app is pretty rough and bulky. If you’ve seen the iOS version of Roblox then you already know that the iOS version just looks a lot better. It also just seems to work better overall.

Well the Android version will soon be updated with a similar user interface. The ugly blue interface will be going poof and in its place will be the much more cleaner looking white interface that you see on the iOS version. Everything is just a lot nicer looking, more organized, and generally works a lot better than what is currently available in the Android version. Of course you will still be able to access the Roblox games but there will be a nice horizontal scrolling list of games which you’ve recently played. Just under that will be games you’ve marked as favorite.

Above both of those games lists is your friends list and your own character. You can go into your own character’s screen to customize it and everything is laid out in a much more organized fashion. Heading to a game’s page will have you presented with a tabbed interface where you can check out the game’s description, screenshots of the game, the game’s leaderboards, and any additional information, all of which is organized in a tabbed layout.

Some of this already exists in the Android version of Roblox but the update will expand on it greatly, making this new layout the entire app’s UI. While there was no specific release date mentioned as to when the new overhauled look would arrive, we were told that it is a matter of days before it is released. This is, of course, as long as nothing major happens to delay its release. When the new app version does arrive, we will post a quick update here as well.
