[Update: Released] Modern Combat 5: Blackout to get a massive content update and eventually will be going for free

Gameloft has announced that Modern Combat 5: Blackout will be getting a massive content update soon and when the update lands, Modern Combat 5: Blackout will also be made available on Google Play for free. Today the iOS version of the update was released and the Android version will be ‘coming soon’.

Update: March 24th, 2015 9:26am PST: Just a quick update regarding this update and change in price, both are now live on Google Play. If you don’t see the new free price tag right away, give it a few minutes as it could still be propagating through your area on Google Play. That’s why it still shows as $3.99 in the link at the bottom even though it is now free.

So what all comes with the update? Well the update brings a lot of new content to Modern Combat 5: Blackout as well as changes to how the game is set up in order to make it a free-to-play game. One big change is an entirely new soldier class being added to the game. This is a support class and with that, all the new additions you would expect to come with a new class are also arriving. With this new soldier class comes a new weapon class as well called Light Machine Guns which, as you are probably guessing, is used mainly by the new support class.

Modern Combat 5: Blackout update:

New Soldier Class: Support
Heal: drop a health box that heals himself and nearby allies for a period of time
Purge: debuffs like EMP, Slow and Flashbang have reduced durations
Bloodlust: healing starts after performing a kill and is amplified
Solid Grip: stability increases the more you shoot the weapon
Emergency Reload: increased reload speed when below 15% ammo in clip
Endurance: player’s movement is increased when using a light machine gun (LMG)
Synergy Perk: players who die within a certain area around the Support will get the option to respawn on their death spot

New Weapon Class: the Light Machine Gun (LMG)
– Used by the Support class
– Slightly higher rate of fire than the submachine gun and delivers slightly more damage than an assault rifle, but has lower accuracy than all the other weapons

New Weapon Tier
– 6th tier weapons now available for all weapon classes

New Multiplayer Game Mode: Zone Control
– Based on capturing zones placed in certain areas of each map
– The team that manages to secure a zone starts to score points
– To secure a zone, a team member needs to stay a certain amount of time in that particular zone.
– More teammates in the zone shortens the time needed to capture it.
– If an enemy enters the zone, the capture progress resets
– The more zones you secure, the more points you get and the shorter the way to victory

Controller Support
– Standard, formfitting and extended controllers

New Character Customization Options
– Such as weapon camos, masks and perks, solo and squad logos & kill signs

Server Updates:
– New servers in different geographical locations will help decrease lag and provide a better multiplayer experience.
– A player’s internet connection remains extremely important, but our server split will provide the basis for more fluent multiplayer gaming

Now, if you are an existing player before the game changes over to a free-to-play title, there are some changes to your account that you will see happen. All existing players will receive ‘Veteran Status’ which means you will receive unlimited energy for life, Veteran exclusive Kill Sign and Camo, and 200 credits added to your Modern Combat 5: Blackout account.

As for when this update will arriving onto Android, right now there is just a ‘soon’ release time. However, since it is already out for iOS, it shouldn’t be that long of a wait.
