[Update: Beta Started] Nexon Korea announces the worldwide release is coming soon for Mabinogi Duel on mobile, closed beta sign-ups are live

Nexon has a few games available on Android already but now their Korean office, which is in charge of their PC titles such as Mabinogi, Combat Arms, and Vindictus, has announced that they will be going globally for the first time with a new game called Mabinogi Duel which is obviously based off of their Mabinogi franchise. Along with this announcement also comes beta sign-ups going live.

Update: March 24th, 2015 9:17am PST: Just a quick reminder that if you have signed up for the closed beta that it begins today. If you have the email where you were accepted, there is a link there to the game on Google Play for beta testers.

Mabinogi Duel is a new tactical TCG title which boasts over 1,000 cards, a substantial single-player campaign, and tons of new content updates already being planned for the game. Players will battle other players in head-to-head combat and will also have the option to trade cards with other players online, something that isn’t in a lot of TCG titles for mobile these days. However trading cards will only be available if players are nearby to you since it is done through WiFi between devices.

Mabinogi Duel isn’t just a small step…it’s a huge leap for Mabinogi, and for NEXON Korea. We’re hugely excited about blazing new trails into the US mobile gaming market, and we’re delighted to begin our journey with this new chapter in the Mabinogi brand. With the exception of the excellent game Hearthstone, there haven’t been many attempts to bring authentic, tactical card battles to mobile. We can’t wait to share our own take on tactical card-battling with the rest of the world. – Dong-Gun Kim, director of developer devCAT.

Since this is a tactical-style of gameplay, players will need to consider careful placement of units on the playing field. In other words this game isn’t just about drawing cards, playing cards and killing your opponent. You will actually need to consider where you are placing your cards. There will also be no ties possible in matches. Monsters, characters, and abilities are all based off of the original Mabinogi MMORPG.

If you’re interested in joining the closed beta phase (which starts March 24th, 2015) for Mabinogi Duel, you can sign-up through the link below. As for when this game will actually hit Google Play, no word on that yet.
