[UPDATED: Game Released] Finnish Indie Developer Umber Games is Bringing Cava Racing to Android

Out of Finland, comes a new racing game that is rendered in warm colorful tones, undulating tracks, and game play that moves at 60 FPS. If that sounds intriguing to you, Umber Games has just what you are looking for in Cava Racing. It was released earlier this year on iOS to strong reviews. Prior to debuting on Android some time in March, Umber Games is polishing it up, tweaking it and adding new elements.

[UPDATE: Friday, April 1oth – 1:17 AM, PST] Cava Racing from Umber Games is now available to download for free, in the Google Play Store. If you are looking for a racer with skillful slides, tactical boosts and twisted teleports, this may be the racer for you. Though the game is free to play, there is no mention of in-app purchases currently in the description. However, ads are present in the game. If you want  to check out Cava Racing, the link to download the game is at the end of the article.

[UPDATE: Thursday, April 2nd – 7:24 AM] We talked to Umber Games recently, and they have finished everything up for the colorful and exciting game Cava Racing. The game will be available to download for Android devices next week, April 10th. If you enjoy racing games that move at a quick pace , and has unusual tracks, get ready for Cava Racing. Once the game hits the Google Play Store, we will let you know.

So what exactly is Cava Racing? “You are a space pilot, chasing the best lap times and excelling on the racing lines. The game is more about refined skill than random action. Original graphics and accurate controls take you on a tour of unique space tracks. While enjoying the excitement of flight, the player can obtain benefits form barrels, health kits and sometimes even teleports.” – Umber Games

The game is said to be inspired by games like Gravitar and other top-down racing games. Upon watching the first trailer, I was immediately reminded of another fun, but challenging racing game, published by Crescent Moon Games, and developed by Snowbolt Interactive, called Slingshot Racing. Though the game mechanics are different, the speed of the game and curvilinear tracks are definitely reminiscent of Slingshot Racing.

Sometimes Android gamers are frustrated by games not being released at the same time as iOS games. Though the wait can be difficult, sometimes it actually turns out better, because we are able to play games that have been thoroughly tested, and additionally modified by game players feedback. Such is the case with Cava Racing. Though the reviews have been quite impressive, some concerns were raised about the ability to control the ship. As designed initially, the controls were tilt only. After having listened to gamers and reviews in general, Umber Games has chosen to include an alternative on-screen joystick steering and also provide sensitivity adjustment for the tilt controls.

Cava Racing is really a great looking game. Based on some of the enhancements that Umber Games has planned for it, it may just be the racing game that takes up most of your time when it is released in March. As we find out more about what Umber Games has in store for us soon, we will let you know. Until then, check out the initial trailer that was released for the game, and let us know what you think about it in the comments.
