[Updated] Postal has apparently been denied from Google Play due to ‘gratuitous violence’. Amazon eventually allows Postal’s release.

Google Play has many different nicknames for it, with one of the more popular ones being that it is the ‘Wild West’ of games and applications. This is mainly due to Google’s easy access for publishers who want to upload their games and apps onto Google Play. As long as you follow the TOS )Terms of Service), don’t break anything related to copyrights, and pay your one-time developer fee to open you account, you can pretty much publish whatever you want. Games that get denied by Apple usually make an appearance on Google Play.

Update: April 10th, 2015 9:38am PST: For those of you who want to purchase Postal for Android, you can do so over at Amazon’s Appstore now. We’ve added the link to it at the end of this article.

So when a game is actually denied access to Google Play, it is a pretty rare event and yet a well-known game for PC that was planning to be released onto Android has had that happen to them. Running with Scissors, the company behind the game called Postal, has released news that Google has denied the Android version of the game from being released due to ‘gratuitous violence’. This happened on the same day the Apple approved Mortal Kombat X for release on iOS, and the Android version of Mortal Kombat X should be landing any day now.

(Google) yanked it right before release claiming its gratuitously violent despite the fact that they sell every gta game before 4 and carmageddon, call of duty, dead space etc. Everyone seems to think POSTAL requires you to kill innocent civilians, POSTAL does not require you to kill any.  You advance levels after killing 90% of the hostiles in a level. – Running with Scissors VP of business development Mike Jaret-Schachter

Mike Jaret-Schachter, the VP of Business Development for Running with Scissors, has a few other examples currently existing on Google Play that are worse than what Postal offers in terms of content. This includes the ability to have sex with a hooker in Grand Theft Auto 3. We can point out plenty of other examples as well so it is pretty interesting that this even happened to Postal. It also doesn’t make any sense at all for this game to be denied by Google. Definitely something that makes you go “what the fuck?!” when you think about it.

Incidentally, Running with Scissors also went to release their game onto Amazon’s Appstore and they also initially denied Postal as well. However, after Running with Scissors contacted Amazon, that decision was reversed and Postal is now available on Amazon’s Appstore for Android users. Still, there is no Postal on Google Play but that isn’t going to stop Running with Scissors from getting the game to Android users by checking out alternative methods like Amazon’s Appstore and Humble Bundle.

While this is disappointing for us, it won’t stop you from being able to play POSTAL on your favorite Android device.

For now, if you want to play Postal on Android, you’ll have to grab it from Amazon when it finally shows up there. Will it eventually arrive on Google Play? It is a possibility but Google hates reversing a decision they already have made. If they do, we will post an update. Same goes for when it actually appears on Amazon.
