Beloko’s Doom emulator finds a new home on the Amazon after being banned from Google Play

After being banned from Google Play to make way for the official release of Doom on Android, Beloko’s emulator for players who want to port over their own copies of Doom has now arrived in the Amazon Appstore. What Beloko does is “specialize in creating high-quality usable ports with exceptional Touch Screen and Gamepad support”, according to the dev.

Even looking at the Amazon Appstore listing it is pretty clear that the full game isn’t being sold, so much as the offering of a shell or a framework that emulates the game to run on Android devices. Despite DOOM proper not actually being sold, the app was given the boot from Google Play anyway, or at least that’s the current theory. Well, as mentioned in the opening, this framework emulator can now be purchased through Amazon.

D-Touch Features:

– 3 Doom engines to choose from
– GZDoom one of the most advanced engines supporting complex scripting and modding, hardware accelerated and feature rich
– PrBoom closer to the original game but with many great new features. Hardware accelerated OR software graphics. Many options to retain demo compatibility.
– Chocolate Doom aims to provide the exact experience of the original game release in 1994. Also supports 4 player multiplayer!
– Awesome touch controls
– Full gamepad support
– Full mod support (GZDoom)

D-Touch will run the first, second, and ultimate versions of DOOM, and a link to the Steam page for various releases for DOOM is also listed on the Amazon page; while not exactly “one stop shopping”, it’s pretty handy to have a link to legit versions of DOOM that will work with Beloko’s free app. And while it’s still early, there is a little over a couple of dozen reviews for it, with all of them being five stars.
