[Updated] SEGA launches Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom onto Google Play

SEGA has released a new sequel to their Sonic Dash game today called Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom. This particular game is entirely themed around the new Sonic Boom cartoon, which means the world and the entire cast in this game all come from the TV show. This sequel also has a few new features that the original game does not.

Update: July 2nd, 2015 6:52am PST: We heard back from our friends over at SEGA. They have confirmed this is a location-specific soft launch which is why it is only available in a few areas right now. Here is the statement that SEGA gave to us:

For many of our mobile titles, a soft launch in limited markets is employed to tune the game and provide the best possible customer experience ahead of a potential global release. This process helps us deliver on SEGA’s promise of world-leading game quality. We are currently working on the sequel to one of our most successful titles: Sonic Dash. The game is currently not available for download in the US and there is no launch date set yet.

Original story continues below…

Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom is a full 3D rendered endless racing game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and a bunch of his friends: Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and Sticks. While you can run through each location as your character of choice, you can now also race with up to three additional characters in the game’s new Team Play Mode.

Sonic Dash 2 Features:

– UNLEASH new special powers – Amy’s Hammer, Knuckle’s Jump Up & Slam attack, Sonic’s even faster Dash, and more
– CONQUER new obstacles and badnicks
– DASH on new fast-paced tracks in and above the beautiful Sonic Boom world
– MASTER new Swing & Tilt gameplay with the super charged Enerbeam; tilt your device to swing the runner towards the rings and orbs
– COLLECT, evolve, and run with new magical Sprites
– EARN special prizes in new Events and Daily SEGA Challenges

A few other additions to this game include the new tilt controls, new hazards and obstacles you will need to avoid, and new environments to run through. If you enjoyed the first Sonic Dash game, then you might want to check this one out. You can download this game off of Google Play for free and it does include optional IAPs.

One thing to note though, we do not have access to the game right now, which could indicate that this is a soft launch. So if you don’t have access to this game by the end of today, then you may have to wait until it is released into your region. We have contacted SEGA just to get confirmation one way or another.
