Ultimate Sigh… Submerged has been delayed for mobile devices.

Last year we reported on an amazing looking game from Uppercut Studios. Uppercut Studios is known for their well-received games Epoch and Epoch 2. Their latest game, which was expected to come out this year on mobile devices, is Submerged. We have been following this game and it looks amazing. Unfortunately, we just received notice that it will be delayed a bit for mobile devices.

Submerged not only looks amazing, but it has an intriguing story as well. You play a young heroine who is trying to help save her brother in a world that has been flooded.

“Exploration, sacrifice, and the serenity of desolation. Trapped in an ancient, half-submerged city and desperate for supplies, you must explore the flooded streets in your simple fishing boat, and scale the ruined buildings that hold the promise of salvation.” – Uppercut Games

We’ve been excited about this game and following the developers blog. This weekend we received the news that the mobile version of the game will be delayed until next year. Here is the email from the developer.

“Hey Everyone,

When we announced Submerged in 2014 we were very vocal about coming out on every platform supported by the Unreal Engine 4. It’s one of the reasons that we selected the engine and we felt (still do!) that it is important that our game is available to everyone, regardless of the platform that they’re on.

That said, we have always been very bold in our philosophy to develop for optimal performance and controls on every platform that we release our games on. The control scheme needs to suit the device and the game should be optimized for the maximum graphical performance that the device allows for. We develop on PC and as such the PC game and console games can be developed in parity quite well. We do however want to take a bit more time with the mobile version after we’re done with those, so we have decided to delay the mobile version for now. We wanted to let you, our patient fans and supporters know as soon as possible.

Our time will be spent on designing a 3rd person control scheme that feels right for touch screens, and pushing the limits on mobile graphically, just as we did with the EPOCH games.

This means that our fans looking to play Submerged on mobile will have to wait a bit longer. But we assure you that getting the PC and console games out first and the extra time in mobile development will make the mobile version better than we could otherwise offer you.  We owe it to ourselves as developers and to you as gamers to push the limits and bring something of the highest quality to mobile instead of treating it like a lesser version of the PC or console. Mobile deserves quality too!” – Uppercut Games

We definitely associate Uppercut Games with quality games, so we can understand their decision to delay the game for mobile for the time being. It is not like Android gamers aren’t used to waiting on great games. In this case, Uppercut Games seems determined to make the game the best it can be for your mobile device. Thus, it looks like we won’t be playing Submerged this year. If you have a powerful PC and/or console, it looks like you are still in luck, and will be playing the game later this year. If you have seen some of the videos of this game, you can tell a lot of hard work has/is going into it. When it does arrive on mobile devices, I am sure it will have been worth the wait.

DroidGamers will continue to follow this game and the developers. Once we are updated with more information, we will pass it along to you. If you want to see how amazing the game looks, we have included the trailer below.
