[Update: Availability] Ankama soft launches their strategy arcade game Tactile Wars onto Android in select regions

Ankama seems to be quite busy these days when it comes to developing mobile games. Currently the company has at least three games that we know of in the works for Android, a couple of which we have already talked about including WAKFU Raiders. We can now add a fourth game to this list called Tactile Wars which just soft launched today onto Google Play in select regions.

[Update: Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 7:23am PST] While this game has been out for four or so days now, some people don’t have access to it yet. Ankama has released a list of regions currently able to access the game. Right now if you live in America, Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa, and Oceania, you should be able to download and play Tactile Wars. No word as to whether it will arrive for other regions in the future.

[Update: Friday, August 14th – 11:35 AM, PST] Ankama has taken Tactile Wars out of soft launch. The game is now available to download in the Google Play Store for free. We have played it a bit, and if you are a fan of strategy games, this may be right up your alley. The game does include in-app purchases, should you choose to take advantage of them. There have been some reviews uploaded to the Play Store that mention connectivity issues with the game. If you choose to download it, let us know what your experience is when booting it up. The links to download the game can be found at the end of this article.

Tactile Wars is a completely new IP from Ankama, so it isn’t based on currently existing IPs like WAKFU or DOFUS as with their other games currently in development. This particular game blends arcade and strategy gameplay together for a bit more of a faster-paced strategy game. In this game players will be taking on the role as a General of their army, which happens to be made up of mini-soldier pigments. All of your troops, as with your enemy troops, are armed with paint guns as their primary weapon.

The goal of this game is to conquer your opponents territories. Each team has their own color and in order to take over your opponents territories, you’ll need to cover them up with your color of paint. In order to do this, players will be able to form squads with their troops in order to control where they go and what they do. You will have a variety of troop types available such as infantry, mines, tanks, and turrets, with also having the ability to recruit mercenaries. You will also be able to upgrade your troops (via researching new technologies) and ally with other players.

Right now Tactile Wars is available for play on Android in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, and Finland. However a global release is slated for later this Summer. No word yet on pricing, although there is a good chance it’ll be free to play with optional IAPs. In the meantime, you can check out the game in action through the teaser trailer below as well as additional screenshots.
