Meet the Sphero BB-8, the App-Enabled Droid that most Star Wars fans will want

Star Wars fans have a new toy they may want to get their hands on called the Sphero BB-8. This little rolling robot can be controlled by your smartphone and is based off of the BB-8 character (complete with authentic look and personality) in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie which will be hitting theaters in December.

So what can this cool little robot do? Well, actually it can do a lot. The BB-8 robot listens for your voice and will react to it, whether it be you commanding it to do something or just interacting/talking with it. It can also record and playback “virtual holographic videos”. Apparently the BB-8 also has a mind of its own, meaning it can do what it feels like doing or saying at any given time.

BB-8 Features:

– Authentic Movement: Guide your BB-8 with a smartphone or tablet using an official app off of Google Play
– Listens & Responds: BB-8 recognizes and reacts to your voice.
– Holographic Communication: Record and view virtual holographic videos with BB-8.
– Autonomous Behavior: BB-8 has a mind of its own – explore the Star Wars™ galaxy together.
– Adaptive Personality: Your BB-8’s unique attitude and actions evolve as you interact.

Once you get the app and sync up your phone or tablet with your new BB-8 robot, you will have three options/modes to choose from: Driving, Holographic Messaging and Patrol. The Holographic Messaging mode is actually really cool. Essentially your robot will turn videos into Star Wars holo-messages which you can check out from within the app. Patrol will give you the real-time log of BB-8’s movements and other actions.

So where can you pick one of these bad boys up? Well Spring is selling them directly, but if you are not on Sprint then you can pick one up off of Amazon for $179.00. Sprint has them on sale for $149. Best Buy and Sphero are also selling the BB-8 for $149.
