[Update: Released] Starside Arena is an upcoming multiplayer space combat game from ex-Rovio people

A new multiplayer space combat game is heading to mobile devices soon called Starside Arena. Developed by a group of ex-Rovio staff who have formed their own game development studio called Epic Owl, this particular game has players building their own spaceships before jumping into combat and pitting their newly created ship against other people.

Update: November 24th, 2015 9:40am PST: For those of you who have been waiting for this game to get released, Starside Arena is now available globally on Google Play. You can download a copy of this game for free through the new link at the bottom of this article.

This game takes place somewhere in the 4000+ year era and sets players up with all the tools they need to craft their ship. The arena is set in a dynamically changing, futuristic game world where you will have access to over 50 technologies to research and 37 unique ship models to choose from. This means there is a lot of combinations possible when building your ship.

We are thrilled to introduce Starside Arena to core fans of the space battle and builder genre. During soft launch the game showed an extraordinary retention with players coming back again and again. It has been exciting to witness the players’ creativity in their unique ship designs, and we look forward to seeing how many more thousands of designs emerge when we launch the game worldwide. – Juha Vainio, CEO & Risto Holmström, CCO of Epic Owl

Depending on the size of your ship, you will be able to hold a different amount of modules, which is where your customizing will take place. Bigger ships have hundred of modules, while smaller ships have less. Of course having a juggernaut of a ship doesn’t mean it’ll be the best either. Ship’s performance is based off of a number of factors including, but not limited to engine power, defenses, countermeasures, weapon systems, power generation and even mass. So just throwing a ship together won’t work out for you either.

As for when you can get your hands on Starside Arena, the iOS version will be launching next week and the Android version will be out in the later part of this month. So it will be available before the end of November. When it does arrive, it will be available for free off of Google Play with optional IAPs as well. In the meantime, you can check out the game’s trailer below.
