Google finally announces full cellular support for Android Wear watches

Google has announced that your Android Wear watch will no longer need to be connected to your Android phone in order to have data access and online capabilities. This is all thanks to the new cellular support that Google has brought to Android Wear as of yesterday’s announcement.

Up until now you would either need your Android Wear watch tethered/synced up with your Android phone, or connected to something via Bluetooth or WiFi in order to be able to perform activities like send and receive messages, running apps that require online access in some form, and even make calls using your watch. This also means you won’t have to worry about being in range of a WiFi connection to function.

The first watch to receive cellular support is the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition which is available on AT&T and Verizon. Of course future watch releases will get cellular support as well. A pretty handy feature to finally have for Android Wear.
