Walmart has begun selling a couple $10 Android smartphone

In other hardware news that doesn’t deal with plummeting through the sky to your death, Walmart has begun selling an Android smartphone that costs $10. Actually the exact price is $9.82, which depending on the sales tax in your area, is just over the $10 mark. Here in Las Vegas, that means it’ll cost around $10.60.

Obviously, if you’re paying ten bucks for a smartphone no matter what the OS is, you aren’t getting the latest and greatest in terms of hardware. However, if you need a burner phone that your kids can use that you won’t worry about if they break it, or if you happen to be a part of an outlaw motorcycle gang, this should do just fine. Match-3 puzzle games shouldn’t be an issue. Playing the latest Unreal Engine 4 built multiplayer action mobile game probably won’t be possible.

So what are the hardware and software specs for this phone? It comes with a 3.8-inch display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 3-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of storage thanks to its included microSD card, and will be running Android 4.4 KitKat. Lastly, you will only get 3G data, no 4G LTE or anything like that. It is a $10 phone after all. As for who made this phone, you can thank LG for this one, but its official name is the TracFone’s Lucky LG16.

Before you rush out to get one, strap it to a weather balloon, and float it halfway across the world while it’s recording it all, the Lucky LG16 is currently sold out. However, there is an identical one spec-wise, also for $10, called the TracFone Sunrise L15G which is also at Walmart. Remember though, you do get what you pay for, but for a starter phone for your child, $10 isn’t a big loss should they break it.
