Square Enix releases a video showing the first gameplay of Final Fantasy IX on mobile

Earlier this month Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy IX would be heading to mobile devices this year. Since that announcement there hasn’t been too much in the way of details about what exactly would be arriving in the mobile version. It’s a safe bet, however, that all of the content should make it into this version, it was mentioned that the graphics would be getting an upgrade and the ATB system will remain intact.

If you’re not familiar with this installment in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy IX follows the story of a war between nations. You will be following a young thief named Zidane Tribal, who joins with others to defeat Queen Brahne of Alexandria, the one responsible for starting the war. The storyline changes, however, when the characters realize that Brahne is working with an even more threatening person called Kuja.

Square Enix released a video over on their Japanese channel on YouTube which showcases some of the gameplay that will be arriving in the mobile version of Final Fantasy IX. It also finally gives us an idea of what the graphics will look like. The video’s kind of funny because it looks sort of like a news cast. It does look like our previous report on this game was correct regarding some of the new features coming with this version, including an auto-save feature (via the cloud), and the ability to speed everything up including the possible bypassing of cutscenes. All cinematics will be the original ones.

Right now there’s still no word on when Final Fantasy IX will be released onto mobile, and whether or not it will be just in Japan or a global release. More than likely it’ll see a global launch as it wouldn’t make much sense releasing this game in Japan-only with how big of a fan base the franchise has across the world, let along the fact that there’s already a lot of Final Fantasy games available on Android in the West.
