Blizzard will be bringing some big changes to Hearthstone in the very near future

Blizzard has announced today that they have some interesting changes heading to Hearthstone in the near future. One of the changes is actually something many Hearthstone players have been wanting, which is more deck slots. This will come in very handy with the other major feature being added to the game, which is game formats.

When ‘game formats’ arrive for Hearthstone, it will essentially give players another way to play the game. There will be the ‘Wild’ way of playing the game, which is essentially what we have now. The Wild format will allow for any cards and decks to be played in a Hearthstone match. The other mode will be the new ‘Standard’ format, which allows for players to get at it like normal, but only using the most recently release Hearthstone cards.

Players will have access to a pool of cards to build their decks from in the new Standard more that consist of nothing but the latest cards. It isn’t as bad as you may be thinking though. The definition of ‘recently released’ for this is within the current calendar year. So there will be plenty of cards available. Also included are a big selection of Basic and Core cards. Players will only be matched with other players who are participating in this new Standard format.

The new Standard mode will only be available in Friendly Challenges, Ranked, and Casual gameplay, so it won’t affect Arena, Solo Play, and Adventures. For those of you curious as to what will be included in the Standard format when it arrives, here’s the sets you’ll be able to access and build decks with:

  • Basic
  • Classic
  • Blackrock Mountain
  • The Grand Tournament
  • The League of Explorers
  • The Spring 2016 Expansion

Curse of Naxxramas and Goblins vs Gnomes will not be a part of the new Standard format when it arrives. Lastly, if you’re all about ranking up, you’ll now have a separate rank for each format. So when you open up Hearthstone, you’ll be able to choose which one you want to participate in each time. The new format and deck slots update will be arriving sometime this Spring 2016. Judging from the available sets for when it does arrive, we should be getting news cards in this expansion as well, although nothing has been revealed about those just yet.
