Craneballs releases Splash Cars onto Android devices

Craneballs Studios is known for their action games. Their most popular is probably the Overkill series, followed by the Gun Master series. Their latest release has taken them in a different direction. Splash Cars is all about painting the town… literally. You hop in your car, step on the gas, and let the colors fly. It is an entertaining game and you can download it now in the Play Store.

At first glance, Splash Cars looks similar to PAKO by Tree Men Games. However, once you start playing Splash Cars, you will find that it is an engaging game, and a new way to look at coloring. The goal in each level is to transform the level with color. The level starts of in muted tones of gray. Once you power up your Blue VW Bug, you can start burning rubber and transforming the little city. That should be easy to do right? It would be if you didn’t have police cars chasing you, a limited tank of gas, and huge looking dump trucks, that are taking all of your hard work and trying to reverse your coloring.

“Tired of the everyday grey? Color the world in a ride of your life! Splash cars await! Riding a splash car is exactly what you’d expect. Fun! Paint oozes from your machine leaving a colorful trail behind. But not everybody likes fun. the cops are always watching and will chase you to the ends of the world, when they see you drive free and off road. It’s the police, they want to bust you for shaking up the established order.” – Craneballs Studios

Splash Cars has extremely simple controls. There are two arrows on the opposite side of your screen. One is for turning left, and the other is for turning right. That’s right folks, no brakes to be found in this game. You can’t put it into reverse either. That means you are going to be doing donuts and swerving through very compact areas, trying to get the job done. It is a blast to play. Especially when you start unlocking other cars and trucks that are faster to drive.

There are coins, fuel and other items to collect on each level. You are going to need to grab that fuel, because some of the maps are pretty large. You have to drive as close as possible to the objects in the environment to change their color. As you progress in the game, there will be a variety of power-ups that you will find on each level. They turn out to be quite helpful. One thing you have to worry about is damaging your vehicle. Each time you run into something, it lessens the strength of your vehicle. If your vehicle gets beyond repair, it is game over. It is helpful to have a power-up to fix your car, or to stall the annoying police officers, that are trying to ram your vehicle, just because you think the world looks prettier with more color.

Splash Cars is a free-to-play game. Coins are part of the in-game currency, as well as batteries. Batteries serve as the usual energy or stamina bar found in these games. It replenishes relatively quickly, and it is topped off, when you successfully complete goals. While playing the game, the timer didn’t bother me like other games have recently, that make you wait an exceedingly long time, before you can play again. You can use your in-game coins to purchase other vehicles or to buy more batteries.

Splash Cars is integrated with Google Game Play Services with leaderboards. There are currently no achievements using Google Play, but there are in-game achievements given for completing tasks. You receive rewards for your achievements, which then can be applied to purchasing cars, fuel or batteries.

Splash Cars is a fun game with a pretty interesting premise. The controls work extremely well, and the maps are relatively large, with multiple goals to complete. It is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy driving/racing games.
