The games don’t require a large learning curve to enjoy. Tap Sports Baseball 2016 is a game where you play against other players in different regions. The game play is asynchronous. Once you have taken your turn, the other player is notified that it is their turn to play. It makes it much easier to play on your own schedule. Even better, you can have multiple games going on at once.
In a nutshell, you will be managing your roster and trying to upgrade your bench, or players. Since this is a free to play game, you have to be prepared to accumulate as much in-game gold and cash as you can. You do this by winning games and gaining XP to upgrade your players. This will allow you to draft better players to your team. This worked well in the previous iteration of the game, as well as in Tap Sports Football.
As far as gameplay is concerned, all you have to worry about is hitting the ball. There are no swiping motions to worry about. You simply tap anywhere on the screen to get your player to swing at the ball. Glu Games has done a great job with all the animations that go into the game. The different pitches that the pitcher throws are pretty impressive. The stats of your players versus the pitcher will make a difference in gameplay, so managing your roster can be key to winning the game.
What I have enjoyed about this year’s version of the game so far is that it feels right. The music is reminiscent of what you would hear during a game, the crack of the bat and the cheers for the home runs. The animations are solid and the graphics are good without being overly detailed. It is also nice to be able to hop in and out of a game without interrupting a busy schedule. For a game where you are primarily just tapping the screen as your main interaction, and managing your team, it works quite well.
